Getting Started with Some Instant Messaging programs
|
| |
Before you start using Instant Messaging, if you plan on
using it from your place of work, be sure it doesn't violate
your company policy, or at least be aware if it does. Some companies don't
allow instant messaging, some just block it, some companies don't let you
install anything not authorized. Some companies don't mind and some use it
as part of their process |

Some people use Multiple Instant Messaging programs.
There are a several programs available for free that are "universal IM
interface" programs. These programs let you have just one window to be
able to initiate a chat. Some of these require you to install each of
the individual IM programs first. Here is a partial list of
programs: |

|
Trillian |

|
Gaim - requires you have each
IM client installed |

|
Miranda |

Some people like to establish more than one
account for themselves. For example, one that has the word Work
and the other Home in it so people will know where you are or so that you
can contact from home to work. Some people choose to have just one
that they use everywhere for anything. |
