Addendum: Boylston Chess Club Championship Procedure
Thanks to Ed Astrachan for providing the following
information.
The Bloyston Chess Club determines its champion via a
three-stage process.
Stage 1: Weaver Adams tournament (~April),
four-round Swiss open to club members under
1800.
Stage 2: Ruben Landy tournament (~May),
five-round Swiss open to club members under
2200 and the top two finishers from Weaver Adams who
choose to participate.
Stage 3: Club Championship, nine-round
round-robin (~Sept-Oct) open to masters in club and
top finishers from Ruben Landy (at least two) to round
out field to nine or ten. The 1998 championship tournament had five masters and
four Ruben Landy qualifiers, with an average rating of
~2210.
Simultaneously with the club championship, a
Hauptournier is conducted: a nine-round round-robin open to the top ten rated
club members who are not eligible for the club championship and who choose to
participate. The 1998 average rating
was ~2010.
Only the club championship has prize money. Entry fees from other three tourneys are
used
to enhance the club championship prize fund.
