Igor Foygel and John Curdo did their usual thing, while Larry Eldridge pulled a string of upsets to tie the two veteran masters for top honors at 3.5 points each.  Foygel and Curdo achieved their scores by winning three games apiece and each taking a bye, while Eldridge (1751) drew Robert Powell (1936) in Round one, then defeated Mark Fins(1862), John Chamberlain (1967), and Tim Suzman (1965) in succession to earn his share of the top spot.  Schoolboy star Jason Spector and Michael Doubenski also had strong tournaments, winning three games each and losing only to Foygel and Curdo, respectively.

Upsets abounded in this tournament. Himanshu Keskar, still officially rated a C-player at 1599, continued his "giant-killing" role for the third straight month by knocking off A-players Joe Kelly and Mark Fins.

Daniel B Newman, similarly still rated "C" at 1592, also defeated a pair of A-players, Al Ward (1800) and Robert Harvey (1837).  Meanwhile, Jacob Perkowski (1656) pulled off a trio of upsets, drawing Robert Powell (1936) and defeating Jack Martin (1826) and Eric Ogren (1800).  And these were just the most noteworthy ones in a mind-boggling overall number of form reversals, as can be seen from the big list still left below.

Howard Goldowsky, Navan Ruthramoorthy, and Severine Wamala tied for first place in the U1750 section with 3.5 each.  Chris Gagnepain swept the U1400 section, 4-0.  Fred Harvey, Michael Kaye, and Joey Kagan tied for second place at 3.0.  Kagan, a high school junior from Newton playing in his first USCF-rated tournament, got a tough pairing in the first round and lost to Harvey, then won three straight games in an impressive debut.  Other upsets of 100 points or more:

Thomas A Kane (1326), defeated both Gatumba Abu (1598) and Menno Koning (1500); Justin Grimes (1095) defeated Tom Powers (1345); Michael W Kaye (1117) defeated Clark R Ewer (1297); Niki Konovalchuk (1737) defeated Paul Mishkin (1898); Mike Barry (1787) defeated Trevor De Koekkoek (1942); Philip J Reed (1042) drew Tom Powers (1345); Michael Doubenski (1870)

defeated Ed Epp (2016); Mark Kaprielian (1707) defeated Robert L Harvey (1837); Stephen E Smith (1782) defeated Paul Mishkin (1898); and Joe Kelly (1840) defeated Trevor De Koekkoek (1942).
