Three types of conditions are detected during the validation of your
tournament:
1. Errors: These are things that generally require outside action
to correct, such as submitting memberships.
2. Warnings: These are things that must be reviewed and can usually
be corrected or overridden without outside action, such as
potentially incorrect IDs in your crosstable or inconsistent
results. The factors that we use to check for possibly incorrect
IDs are listed at the end of this e-mail. This process will not
catch every incorrect ID and it may raise a warning when there
is nothing wrong. When that happens, you can override the warning.
3. Notes: These are things that do not require any action on your part,
such as when the tests that we perform to look for incorrect IDs
don't quite add up to enough to raise a warning. You should always
review those players anyway to see if the information is correct.
Remember, it is far better and easier to fix errors BEFORE the event
is rated than to have to correct them and rerate the event afterwards.
All errors and warnings must be resolved before you can submit your
tournament for rating.
Some steps to try to correct problems:
Expired Members:
A. Submit any memberships collected at your tournament.
B. If the event is a Primary or in-school JTP event, make sure
the section has the correct type.
C. Submit a membership exception request.
Bad or duplicate USCF IDs:
A. Check for typos in the ID.
A. Use the active ID for that player.
C. Try looking the player up using MSA or the Membership Lookup
feature in the TD/Affiliate Support Area.
D. If this is a new membership from another event, you can get
the new member's ID from MSA when that membership has
been processed.
E. For valid, old IDs that are no longer in the USCF's computer
records, submit a membership exception request.
Warnings:
A. Check that you have the right player ID and results.
B. If the information is correct, use the tournament edit
form and check the override box.
Notes:
Notes do not have to be corrected. However, you should probably
review those players to make sure their ID's and results are correct.
For unusual situations like duplicate IDs or old IDs and ratings that
need to be restored, submit a membership exception request.
Be sure to read the help file for the tournament edit form!
Possible Bad ID Reason Codes:
H - Player is rated much higher than other players.
L - player is rated much lower than other players.
A - Player is an adult in a youth tournament (most players under 18).
K - Player is a youth in a mostly adult tournament (most players over 21).
P - Player's performance rating is more than 500 points above
his current rating.
Q - Player's performance rating is more than 600 points below
his current rating.
E - Membership has expired.
N - Not a current USCF member.
I - Player is not eligible for this event (usually a JTP event.)
T - Membership Type is different than most players.
Y - Age (birth year) is different than most players.
S - State is different than most players.
C - Ratings Class (200 point intervals) is different than most players.
Z - 3 digit zip code is different than most players.
